BUAP Students Shine at National MMA Championship
PUEBLA, MEXICO – The fighting spirit of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) made headlines at the National Mixed Martial Arts Championship in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. With more than 1,000 competitors from 25 states, the event became the ultimate stage for young talent, and two BUAP students stood out with medal-winning performances.
Rising Talent from Puebla
Mario Eduardo Cisneros, from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, and Omar Mendoza de Ramón, from the Faculty of Administration, proved that Puebla’s student athletes can compete at the highest level. Guided by their coach, Víctor Hugo Bolaños, the duo brought home medals that put BUAP firmly on the national map of mixed martial arts.
Silver and Bronze for BUAP
Cisneros delivered a stellar run through the eliminations, advancing all the way to the final. Although victory slipped away, his grit and determination earned BUAP a well-deserved silver medal. Meanwhile, Mendoza fought his way into the semifinals, securing a bronze medal and guaranteeing Puebla two podium finishes. Together, their results showcased the strength of student sports in the Angelópolis.
A Championship with National Impact
The tournament, hosted at the Colegio de Bachilleres Gymnasium (COBACJ), was sanctioned by the Federación de Artes Marciales Mixtas Equidad and coordinated by the Comisión Nacional de Cultura Física y Deporte (CONADE). This official endorsement gave full credibility to every result, while also awarding ranking points to the winners. Those points are crucial, as they count toward qualification for the 2025 IMMAF World Championships in Georgia.
