At Container Park 7 in Villa de Pozos, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, local officials unveiled the official sports lineup for the 2025 Regional Fair—a landmark moment marking the first edition of organized competitions since the area gained municipal status. Featuring 16 diverse sporting events, the agenda puts Mixed Martial Arts at the forefront, positioning combat sports as the driving force and emotional core of this year’s celebration.
MMA with a Cause: Fighting for the Future
The standout announcement came from local sensei Erick Omar Rodríguez Estrada, who confirmed a Mixed Martial Arts Tournament with a Cause scheduled for Saturday, October 4. More than a spectacle, the event will raise funds to help two local athletes travel to Argentina to represent Mexico at the World Taekwondo Championship.
With MMA at center stage, Villa de Pozos is blending competition and community impact—turning every strike and submission into support for homegrown talent.
A Full-Contact Festival
The program begins with a Chess Tournament already drawing 130 young participants, showing the fair’s commitment to mental as well as physical competition. On Sunday, October 5, adrenaline shifts into high gear with a six-lap Off-Road Race starting and finishing in Ciudad Satélite, followed at 8:00 a.m. by a 5K and 10K Road Raceopen to all age categories (free registration, capped at 400 runners). Children aged 2–14 will also compete in sprint events starting from Calle Cinco de Mayo in front of the main plaza church.
Combat sports fans can also look forward to an Olympic Boxing Tournament on Sunday, September 28, featuring local gyms from Villa de Pozos and San Luis Potosí. And on Saturday, October 4, alongside MMA, the Municipal Soccer Cup will host children’s, women’s, and open-category matches at Field 4 of the Unidad Deportiva Municipal.
