17th annual National Popular Games 2025
Veracruz once again proved its strength in Popular Martial Arts, winning eight medals — two gold, four silver, and two bronze — at the 17th annual National Popular Games 2025 in Oaxtepec, Morelos. The event, held from November 2 to 11, gathered Mexico’s top martial arts talents. Veracruz’s team made sure their presence stood out among the best.
A Strong Team Performance
The Veracruz delegation included 25 athletes competing in Forms and Combat at the Poliforum Auditorium in Oaxtepec. Out of the eight medals, six came from the Forms division and two from Combat. This impressive performance confirms Veracruz’s consistent excellence in national events.
Golden Glory
Two young athletes took home gold for Veracruz.
- Mateo Martínez León dominated the Intermediate Boys (13–14 years, 40–45 kg) Combat category. It’s his second straight year winning gold.
- María José Ramírez Ramírez also triumphed in Forms with Long Weapon, earning her fifth consecutive medal in these games.
Silver Success
Veracruz’s silver streak continued with María José Ramírez Ramírez, who added another medal in Forms with Short Weapon.
Meanwhile:
- Yuseli Janelle Perales Cruz took silver in both Short Weapon and Long Weapon Forms in the Girls Beginners (10–12 years) category.
- Ian Yussef Perales Cruz earned silver in Short Weapon Forms for Boys Intermediate (13–14 years).
These consistent wins highlight Veracruz’s growing technical skill and dedication.
Bronze Achievements
The medal count rose further with Ian Yussef Perales Cruz, who grabbed bronze in Long Weapon Forms. Eduardo Aldahir Sandria Jácome also secured bronze in Combat (Junior Advanced 15–17 years, 65–70 kg). Both athletes displayed determination and discipline throughout the tournament.
