Rey Mysterio
WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio recently made a major admission. The legendary luchador admits that leaving the ring has crossed his mind. However, he does not feel ready to end his incredibly long career just yet.
Listening To His Body
At 51 years old, Mysterio remains highly active in WWE. He also serves as the General Manager of AAA. His comments come after a massive wave of recent wrestling departures. John Cena retired in late 2025. Hiroshi Tanahashi and AJ Styles stepped away in early 2026. Brock Lesnar also announced his exit following WWE SummerSlam 2026.
Despite this growing trend among his peers, Mysterio says his body has not given him the signal to stop. He recently discussed his future on the popular podcast What’s Your Story? With Stephanie McMahon. He revealed that while he wonders if his time is close, he always listens to his body. Right now, his body is not telling him to quit.
No Big Farewell Tour
While he enjoys his role as AAA GM and loves watching rising stars, he still prefers wrestling over working behind the cameras. He understands that opportunities are limited and is happy to share the spotlight with younger lucha libre talent.
Interestingly, Rey Mysterio says his eventual exit will not involve a massive retirement tour. Instead of a lengthy countdown, he expects his final day to just pop up out of nowhere. When it is finally time, he will know.
A Legendary Lucha Legacy
Born Óscar Gutiérrez Rubio in 1974, Mysterio began wrestling at age 14. He popularized lucha libre in the United States during his famous WCW run. Since joining WWE in 2002, he has won multiple world titles and earned a Hall of Fame induction. For now, the master of the 619 is perfectly comfortable balancing his current roles. Fans can still enjoy watching his genuinely great wrestling matches while he very patiently waits for that final sign to hang it all up.
