Bandido
For many professional wrestlers across the globe, competing inside a legendary venue is the ultimate bucket list goal. Currently, few arenas hold as much prestige as the iconic Arena Mexico. Recently, AEW star and reigning ROH World Champion Bandido opened up about what this historic building truly means to him.
A Childhood Dream Realized
During a revealing interview before the Grand Slam Mexico event, Bandido shared his deep emotional connection to the venue. As a young boy, he dreamed of stepping into the CMLL ring. At just sixteen years old, he finally visited the building during his very first trip to Mexico City. Stepping through the doors, he instantly knew he wanted this historic location to be his lifelong wrestling home. Today, returning as an AEW superstar feels completely surreal and deeply fulfilling for him.
The Ultimate Rite of Passage
Working a match inside this sacred building is a massive milestone for any luchador. In fact, many masked competitors only feel like they have genuinely arrived once they perform under those bright lights. Bandido firmly believes that competing here marks a true achievement. He confidently stated that if you have a match inside these legendary walls, you can proudly call yourself a real luchador. The emotional atmosphere inside the arena continues to inspire him.
Global Prestige and Historic Triumphs
Bandido compares this iconic Mexican venue to world-famous arenas like the Tokyo Dome, Korakuen Hall, and Madison Square Garden. Interestingly, he was previously banned from the building for four years due to past wrestling affiliations. Thankfully, that restriction was lifted in 2025 following the groundbreaking partnership between AEW and CMLL.
Since his return, Bandido has continued to dominate the wrestling world. From winning the prestigious AEW World Trios Championship in August 2026 to defending his coveted ROH title, his ongoing journey is absolutely incredible. Ultimately, the emotional weight of wrestling exactly where his childhood dreams first began adds endless magic to his amazing wrestling legacy.
