Emanuel Navarrete vs. O’Shaquie Foster
San Antonio gets a proper boxing treat this Saturday night. Emanuel Navarrete vs. O’Shaquie Foster is finally happening at the Frost Bank Center on October 24, putting three 130-pound world titles on the line in one of the fall’s best matchups.
The clash is a classic style contrast. Navarrete (40-2-1, 33 KOs) brings his awkward, heavy-handed pressure and holds the WBO and IBF straps. Across the ring stands Foster (25-3, 12 KOs), the slick WBC champion who makes a living off sharp counters and ring generalship. Top Rank is promoting the show, with the main card streaming live on DAZN at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. If you are in the area, tickets are still up for grabs on Ticketmaster.com.
Navarrete Wants “Carnage,” Not a Jabbing Contest
At Thursday’s press conference, Navarrete sounded like a man who has zero interest in a technical chess match. The Mexican brawler knows what fans pay to see. To make sure he can push that pace for twelve rounds, he tightened up his entire routine this camp—tweaking his diet, adjusting his workouts, and cutting out distractions to hit San Antonio at full strength.
“We don’t want the whole night to just be him throwing the jab and me throwing the jab to see who lands more,” Navarrete said. “I think people are expecting a good fight, mainly a war inside the ring, where both of us go after the titles and hunt for the victory. That makes for a stronger, more attractive fight—and even a bit of carnage, as we call it in boxing.”
He respects Foster, sure, but Navarrete isn’t losing any sleep over what the WBC champ plans to do. He intends to walk forward, force a dogfight, and leave everything in the ring for the fans who traveled out to Texas to back him.
Foster Says the Wait Is Finally Over
Foster sees things a bit differently. For him, Saturday night is the payoff for nearly three years of frustration. He has been calling for Navarrete ever since he first inked his deal with Top Rank, only to hear excuses and delays from the other side. Now that he finally has Navarrete trapped in the ring with him, he has no plans of getting dragged into a sloppy brawl.
“I have ice in my veins,” Foster said. “I adapt to whatever comes. I am calm, collected, and I keep my cool. I don’t fight to do favors for my opponents. I will adapt to whatever he brings, and it is going to be a great night.”
Undercard Highlights: González, Martin, and Navarro Return
The undercard has plenty of teeth before the headliners make the walk. Unbeaten featherweight Albert “Chop Chop” González (18-0, 11 KOs) takes the co-main slot, defending his NABF belt over 10 rounds against tough Fort Worth native and two-time world title challenger Edward Vázquez (20-3, 6 KOs).
Frank Martin (19-1-1, 13 KOs) is also back in the mix at 140 pounds. He squares off with Morocco’s Tarik Zaina (18-3-1, 12 KOs) in a 10-rounder for the vacant NABO title. Opening up the main DAZN broadcast, old amateur rivals Steven Navarro (9-1, 6 KOs) and undefeated Emanuel Moreno (13-0, 3 KOs) will run it back as pros in a 10-round bantamweight fight for the vacant NABO and NABF belts.
