Mary Romero, three-time European champion, is set for another shot at a world title. On December 12, she’ll face Mexico’s Ashley González for the WBC Super Flyweight Championship in Hamburg, Germany, live on DAZN.
Romero (10-6-0, 2 KO) has been here before—earlier this year, she lost by TKO to Dina Thorslund in a last-minute world title fight. “I barely slept, cut weight at the airport, and had no rest before the fight,” Romero explained. Still, she remains determined to make another run at a world championship.
Now, the 39-year-old Spaniard moves up to super flyweight, a division where she’s never fought for a belt, but one she’s ready to conquer. Romero’s previous European title reigns included big wins over Ivanka Ivanova, Amy Timlin, and Maria Cecchi.
Despite setbacks—including a controversial loss to Seren Cetin and a tough defeat to Rianna Rios in Washington—Romero is determined to reclaim her spot at the top. González (16-2-0, 7 KO), currently on a six-fight win streak, presents a tough challenge, but Romero is motivated to bring home the gold.
At 39, Romero knows the stakes are high—but she’s ready to leave it all in the ring for another shot at glory.
