Armando “El Toro” Reséndiz Makes History
So much hype for the anticipated showdown between Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo, and in the end, that dream fight was completely ruined by Armando “El Toro” Resendiz, who pulled off the big upset on Saturday night by defeating Plant by split decision to become the first WBA interim super middleweight world champion from Nayarit, Mexico. Raising his record to 16 wins, 2 losses and 11 knockouts. Armando “El Toro” Resendiz Makes History!
Bloodied Face, Clear Winner
The scorecards read 116-112, 113-115 and 116-112 in favor of Resendiz, who entered the ring as the clear underdog. But the real score was written on Plant’s bruised and bloodied face. Resendiz, on the other hand, emerged virtually unscathed and celebrated with a smile that needed no translation.
With a record of 16-2, the 26-year-old Mexican made it clear that he belongs among the world’s boxing elite. Plant, 32, fell to 23-3 and left the ring with more damage than honor.
The Breaking Point: Body Punishment and Constant Pressure
The first few rounds went to Plant, who used his jab and movement to set the pace. But by the sixth round, Resendiz switched gears. He punished the ribs, withstood the counterpunching and turned the fight into a hand-to-hand war. By the ninth round, Plant was bleeding and looked exhausted.
Resendiz smelled victory and did not let off the gas. In each round, he was breaking Plant physically and mentally. Round 12 was pure domination; Plant was just trying to survive.
From Underdog to History Maker
Reséndiz didn’t just win a fight: he wrote history. He is now the first world boxing champion born in Nayarit, igniting a new spark in Mexican boxing. The Plant vs. Charlo hype was buried. “El Toro” is now center stage.
