David Benavidez
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia- David “EL MONSTRO” Benavidez proved he is the most dangerous puncher at 175 pounds. He crushed Anthony Yarde in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to retain his WBC light heavyweight title for “Benavidez vs. Yarde: The Ring IV“. The seventh-round TKO pushed his record to an undefeated 31-0 (25 KOs). In addition, the victory showed he is settling into the division fast, while continuing to evolve into an unstoppable force.
The Monster Takes Control Early
Benavidez opened the fight calm and calculated, testing Yarde’s timing. However, once he shifted gears, everything changed. The power, accuracy, and pressure from “The Monster” forced Yarde backward again and again.
Yarde (27-4, 24 KOs) fired sharp jabs. He also landed clean counters. Yet every exchange on the ropes worked against him. Benavidez increased the pace each round, landing heavy combinations that chipped away at his defense.
A Brutal Finish in Round 7
The pressure kept building. Crisp three-punch attacks soon turned into fierce 10-shot bursts. Therefore, Yarde faded under the constant assault. He eventually took a knee in Round 7.
A brief penalty for a late shot slowed Benavidez for only a moment. Moments later, he trapped Yarde on the ropes once more, unloading hooks and uppercuts. The referee stepped in, ending the punishment before it became even more dangerous. It marked Benavidez’s first stoppage at light heavyweight and one of his most ruthless performances.
What’s Next: Zurdo and Cruiserweight Ambitions
After the win, Benavidez made a bold announcement. He wants to jump straight to cruiserweight on May 2.
“Me vs. Zurdo Ramirez. I’m going up to cruiserweight to challenge for his titles,” Benavidez said confidently.
Golden Boy Promotions confirmed plans for the all-Mexican showdown. It is expected to land on Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, fans had hoped for a matchup against Dmitry Bivol. However, Benavidez wants history. A third-division world title is the next target.
