The Canelo vs Crawford legacy was reshaped on September 13, 2025. Terence Crawford defeated Saul “Canelo” Álvarez by unanimous decision (116-112, 115-113, 115-113) at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, taking the undisputed super middleweight titles from the champion.
Canelo vs Crawford Legacy
Crawford moved up two weight classes to take on Álvarez—an ambitious move that paid off. His defensive skills, timing, and counterpunching neutralized Canelo’s power.
Álvarez tried to work the body and press forward, but Crawford’s speed and footwork allowed him to control much of the action.
For Canelo’s legacy, this is his third loss—the others coming at the hands of Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol. However, those defeats were all against universally respected opponents.
This latest loss to Crawford, himself now the first male boxer to become undisputed champion in three weight classes, adds to Álvarez’s reputation for never avoiding challenges.
After the fight, Álvarez praised Crawford, saying he had earned the win: “He’s way better than Mayweather,” Canelo said, acknowledging the excellence of his opponent’s performance. Crawford, in turn, said this was a defining moment in his career.
Though the belt has changed hands, Canelo’s legacy stands firm. He has shared the ring with the elite, lost only to those elite, and continues to be one of boxing’s top draws.
The result strengthens Crawford’s legacy—and reinforces Álvarez’s as a champion who always sought the toughest test.
