Dana White’s Contender Series: Christopher “El Tanke” Ewert
Over the past year, Fajador.com has interviewed some of the most exciting athletes in combat sports. We have especially focused on talent from Spanish-speaking countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Chile. One of our most compelling features was on the Danger Podcast con Julio Molina, where Chilean pro middleweight MMA fighter Christopher “El Tanke” Ewert joined us ahead of his highly anticipated fight at Dana White’s Contender Series on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
The Chilean Contender Who Refuses Shortcuts
Co-hosting alongside veteran combat sports journalist Steve Duncan and Julio Molina, I witnessed Ewert’s humility and discipline firsthand. With a perfect 7-0 professional record, he has shown an aggressive yet technical style in Combate Global, Fury FC, and the Chilean national circuit such as Ragnarok Combate making history as the 1st World Champion for the organization making it to the top at Vs Luis Avila at Ragnarok Combate 5 on MARCH 18, 2023. At 31 years old and representing Santiago, he is already seen as one of Latin America’s most promising middleweights.
Another exciting fact about Ewert’s fight camp is his sparring partnership with Waldo “Salsa Boy” Cortes-Acosta, the only Latino heavyweight in UFC history since Cain Velasquez. Training under respected coach Javier Torres, Ewert has been pushing his limits alongside elite company. Honestly, that’s insane if you ask me — iron truly sharpens iron.
Back on June 12, 2025, Santiago erupted in excitement for his expected UFC debut at UFC 317: Topuria vs. Oliveiraagainst Jackson McVey in Las Vegas. Ewert endured a grueling 30-pound weight cut in just four days. However, the fight was canceled at the last moment. The setback hit the Latino combat sports community hard, not simply because fans wanted to see him fight, but because they believed he had earned the opportunity.
Rankings and Career Highlights
Ewert currently holds the #1 Pro Middleweight ranking in Texas, #11 in Latin America, and #322 in North America according to Tapology. His career includes notable wins such as:
