The Chilean Contender Who Refuses Shortcuts
Co-hosting alongside veteran combat sports journalist Steve Duncan and Julio Molina, I witnessed Ewert’s humility and discipline firsthand. Back on June 12, 2025, Santiago erupted in excitement for his expected UFC debut at UFC 317: Topuria vs. Oliveiraagainst Jackson McVey in Las Vegas. Ewert endured a grueling 30-pound weight cut in just four days. However, the fight was canceled at the last moment. The setback hit the Latino combat sports community hard, not simply because fans wanted to see him fight, but because they believed he had earned the opportunity.
