Colombia vs. Spain in Sweden: Alejandra “Azul” Lara To Face Aitana Alvarez in Sweden on May 31
Swedish fight promotion Superior Challenge has announced that it will feature a bantamweight (135 pounds) championship fight between Alejandra “Azul” Lara (11-8) and Aitana Alvarez (8-8) on the organization’s 28th fight card on May 31 at Annexet in Stockholm.
The addition of the women’s bout gives the fight card a total of five world championship bouts.
“We want to give Swedish MMA fans something completely special and value for their money with world-class MMA and an event you will never forget,” said Andres Viracca, co-owner of Superior Challenge.
Alvarez is a 25-year-old native of San Sebastian, Spain and a Stockholm import looking for her second straight win after defeating Ireland’s Dee Begley by way of a ninja choke in a WOW promoted fight in Sevilla, Spain on April 12.
Since she turned pro in 2020, Alvarez has competed for the likes of OKTAGON, Combate Global and UAE Warriors, among others.

The 30-year-old Lara from Medellin, Colombia is fighting out of San Diego, Calif. and is a former Bellator world championship challenger who returned to MMA after suffering a back injury that required surgery and kept her sidelined for the majority of 2023.
Lara’s first fight back took place at Combate Global on May 11, 2024 and saw her quickly defeat Gisela Luna by way of first round (1:39) TKO.
The win over Luna was Lara’s first after losing four straight fights in Bellator, where she had challenged for the world flyweight (125 pounds) title in a matchup with then defending champion, Ilima-Le Macfarlane, who submitted Lara with an armbar in the third round (3:55) of their matchup.
