Main Event: Vazquez vs Welch
“Among epic rivalries, few are as intense as Mexico vs. USA, so this is the perfect way to launch our Saturday night live events,” said COMBATE GLOBAL CEO Campbell McLaren.
The main event features a fiery bantamweight clash at 135 pounds. Gianni “Kriptonita” Vazquez (13-5-1) proudly represents Mexico against American rising star Alvin “El Yunque” Welch (6-1). Vazquez, a 31-year-old warrior originally from Mexico City, currently trains under Colin Oyama in California. Recently, Vazquez boldly fought on two days’ notice. He unfortunately suffered a decision loss that snapped a dominant five-fight win streak. Notably, Vazquez remains the only fighter to ever defeat globally ranked David Martinez. Welch brings dangerous finishing skills from Spokane, Washington. Welch secured his last impressive MMA victory with a second-round rear-naked choke.
Co-Main Event: Vera Battles Anguiano
The fantastic women’s co-main event delivers a phenomenal 120-pound catchweight bout. Nadia Vera (6-5-1) squares off against Abril “Mulan” Anguiano (7-5). Vera, representing Mexico City’s aggressive Bonebreakers team, brings heavy grappling experience to La Jaula. She actively holds belts in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai. On the other side, the Texas-based Anguiano is a fierce, relentless striker. Impressively, Anguiano has never been knocked out in her entire professional career. Because of her vast professional boxing background, Anguiano’s incredibly heavy hands will severely test Vera’s elite grappling defense.
