Jawy Mendez Scores A Second Round Knockout To Earn First MMA Victory Live on YouTube and Samsung TV Plus Worldwide
A much-improved Mendez defeated Rafael Monterola in a featured Combate Global bout in Miami on Thursday, April 24
Television star and reggaeton recording artist Jawy Méndez (1-1) earned his first professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) victory at COMBATE GLOBAL, scoring a second round (3:59) TKO (punches and elbow strikes) on Rafael Monterola (0-1) in a 175-pound catchweight fight, live on YouTube and Samsung TV Plus from Miami on Thursday, April 24.
The 36-year-old Méndez of Mexico City, Mexico showed tremendous improvement in his second COMBATE GLOBAL MMA bout, coming out of his corner swinging with his fists and firing away with round kicks to the body of Monterola, who hails from The Bronx, N.Y.
A right hand from Méndez forced Monterola to move backward and onto the canvas where Méndez went into Monterola’s half guard.

Tor the remainder of the first round, Méndez remained in the same position and utilized his fists to inflict damage to the head of Monterola, who was saved by the bell.
In the second round, after sending Monterola reeling back against the cage with a combination of three punches, Méndez sent his opponent to the mat with a straight right hand and quickly moved to Monterola’s half guard again.
From there, Méndez continued hammering away with combinations of punches and elbow strikes before the referee stopped the bout, giving Méndez the TKO victory.
Méndez’s improvement can be attributed to his hard work at Miami-based, world-class MMA training camp, MMA Masters, which has produced over 100 MMA and kickboxing champions over the course of the last 12 years.
Featherweight (MMA) star and MMA Masters coach Danny “The Colombian Warrior” Chavez played a significant part in leading Méndez to victory, both serving as one of Méndez’s trainers during camp and cornering Méndez during the fight.
In main event action on the six-fight COMBATE GLOBAL card, Harry “El Cuervo” Gomez (12-2) of Santa Elena, Ecuador submitted Ismael “Kraken” Zamora (8-4) of Mexico City with a rear-naked choke in the second round (4:29) of the bantamweight (135 pounds) matchup.
