Doedk Rodríguez: A Star Rises in Tijuana’s MMA Scene
Latin American Prospects (LAP) kicked off its debut event with fireworks as hometown hero Doedk Rodríguez scored a hard-fought split-decision win over Cristóbal Pérez Ruiz. The July 20 clash at Entram Gym set the tone for what promises to be an electrifying future for amateur MMA in Latin America.
Rodríguez, a standout from JS MMA, used his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu background to control the early ground game. Though his rear-naked choke attempt ran out of time in round one, he quickly shifted gears in the second, unleashing effective body kicks and neutralizing takedown attempts with sharp sprawls. In the third, both fighters went to war in the stand-up game, but it was Rodríguez who gained the edge in the exchanges.
The judges saw it close: two scored it 29-28 for Rodríguez, while one gave it to Pérez Ruiz. Referee Enrique Diarte raised Rodríguez’s hand as Latin American Prospects 1 made an emphatic debut.

The launch of LAP was graced by UFC standouts Michael Morales, Yazmín Jáuregui, and Christian “Problema” Quiñónez, lending star power and credibility to this rising league.
Co-Main Event Fireworks
René García wowed fans by dominating Víctor “Alphachino” Enríquez, winning 30-27 on all scorecards. García’s relentless pressure, striking volume, and takedowns proved too much for his Alpha Team opponent.
In another thrilling co-main bout, Diego Marchen edged Eduardo Núñez Reyes by unanimous decision. Marchen’s crisp striking and forward pressure sealed the deal.
