Recognition for a Dominican Media Leader
The Dominican Republic Martial Arts Hall of Fame (SAFAMRD) has officially announced that Fernando Hasbún, president of Grupo SIN and a Black Belt in Kyokushinkai Karate, will serve as Honorary President of its 14th annual ceremony. The event will take place on November 30 at the Auditorio del Pabellón de la Fama in the Olympic Center.
This recognition highlights Hasbún’s decades of contribution to Dominican journalism and his lifelong dedication to martial arts. Organizers praised his innovation, integrity, and leadership, calling him “an undisputed reference in modern Dominican television journalism.”
A Legacy Built on Truth and Discipline
Fernando Hasbún’s journey began in the 1970s at Tele Antillas, where he quickly made his mark in broadcast journalism. Later, he expanded his career internationally through Telemundo and Univision in the United States.
After returning to the Dominican Republic in 1999, he took charge of CDN and eventually founded Grupo SIN, home to influential programs like Noticias SIN and El Informe. These platforms helped redefine modern media standards in the country.
In 2025, Hasbún received the Acroarte Award for Journalistic Merit, presented by the Association of Art Chroniclers, honoring his commitment to truth, accuracy, and excellence. His work continues to inspire both journalists and viewers across the nation.
Bridging Journalism and Martial Arts
Beyond his television achievements, Fernando Hasbún has maintained a lifelong bond with martial arts. Holding a Black Belt in Kyokushinkai, he promotes the sport’s timeless values of discipline, respect, and perseverance.
The SAFAMRD, founded in 2009, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing martial arts excellence throughout the Dominican Republic. This year’s ceremony also receives the support of Fundación Macarrulla and Grupo Corripio, strengthening its national impact and prestige.
As Honorary President, Hasbún represents the powerful link between leadership, truth, and martial discipline—a combination that continues to inspire generations in the Dominican Republic.
