Getafe to Build State-of-the-Art Martial Arts Center
Getafe, Spain is stepping into the spotlight as a national leader in sports innovation with a bold new project. The City Council has greenlit the construction of a state-of-the-art Martial Arts Center and significant renovations to the Polideportivo Juan de la Cierva. These efforts aim to enhance training opportunities for local athletes while improving overall sports infrastructure.
New Martial Arts Center Will Benefit 400+ Young Athletes
At the center of the project is a 320-square-meter Thematic Martial Arts Center. This new facility will transform the existing “cube” space into a cutting-edge training hub. Designed to serve the Municipal Sports Schools, it will support more than 400 young athletes training in karate, judo, and taekwondo.
Moreover, the facility will include multipurpose rooms, advanced flooring, improved accessibility, and restrooms on both levels. The exterior will also be modernized, creating a welcoming and functional environment.
Renovated Spaces Bring New Life to Juan de la Cierva Complex
In addition to building the new center, the city will refurbish 890 square meters of currently unused space. On the ground floor, there will be a new reception area, storage units, and offices for local sports organizations.
Upstairs, three brand-new training rooms—two of which are modular—will host a variety of physical activities. The renovations also include modern restrooms, locker rooms, a new staircase, and a fully accessible elevator, ensuring that everyone in the community can enjoy the facility.
A City Committed to Grassroots Sports
Mayor Sara Hernández emphasized the importance of supporting local sports and community wellness. She explained that this initiative is part of Getafe’s long-term strategy to promote intergenerational physical activity and strengthen neighborhood sports clubs.
Notably, this dedication has earned Getafe national recognition through the Spanish National Sports Award, granted by the Higher Sports Council.
Getafe’s Future in Sports Looks Bright
With these strategic investments, Getafe is positioning itself as a hub for martial arts, youth development, and inclusive sports infrastructure. The new Martial Arts Center is more than a facility—it’s a symbol of the city’s vision for a healthier, more active future.
