Global Fight Results: Jawy Mendez Scores A Second Round Knockout For His First MMA Victory Streamed Live On YouTube and Samsung TV Plus Worldwide
A better prepared Mendez defeated Rafael Monterola in a featured fight at Combate Global in Miami on Thursday, April 24.
Television star and reggaeton artist Jawy Mendez (1-1) earned his first professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) victory on COMBATE GLOBAL, scoring a second round (3:59) technical knockout (punches and elbows) over Rafael Monterola (0-1) in a 175-pound bantamweight fight, live on YouTube and Samsung TV Plus from Miami on Thursday, April 24.
Mendez, 36, of Mexico City, Mexico, showed he improved in his second COMBATE GLOBAL MMA fight, coming out of his corner swinging with his fists and firing roundhouse kicks to the body of Monterola, of Bronx, New York.
A right hand from Mendez forced Monterola to the canvas where Mendez got into Monterola’s half guard.
For the remainder of the first round, Mendez remained in the same position and used his fists to inflict damage to Monterola’s head, who was saved by the bell.
In the second round, after sending Monterola reeling against the cage with a three-punch combination, Mendez sent his opponent to the canvas with a straight right and quickly moved to Monterola’s half guard again.
From there, Mendez continued to hammer away with punch and elbow combinations before the referee stopped the fight, giving Mendez the win by technical knockout.
Mendez’s improvement can be attributed to his training at MMA Masters, a world-class gym based in Miami that has produced more than 100 MMA and kickboxing champions over the course of the past 12 years.
Featherweight (MMA) star and MMA Masters trainer Danny “The Colombian Warrior” Chavez played a major role in leading Mendez to victory, both serving as one of Mendez’s trainers during camp and cornering Mendez during the fight.
In the headlining fight action of COMBATE GLOBAL’s six-fight card, Harry “El Cuervo” Gomez (12-2) of Santa Elena, Ecuador submitted Ismael “Kraken” Zamora (8-4) of Mexico City in the second round (4:29) in a bantamweight (135 pounds) showdown.
