La Perla del Pacífico: Ecuador’s Largest City
Guayaquil — La Perla del Pacífico — is stepping boldly into the cage of sports innovation. Mayor Aquiles Alvarez announced that starting in 2026, the city will open three to five municipal MMA academies each year, with the goal of reaching every district. This visionary initiative will introduce free martial arts training in public schools, guided by Ecuador’s top MMA fighters and elite coaches.
The mayor shared the news alongside Carlos Morán, Director of Sports, and MMA stars Adrián and Andrés Luna. Both fighters have proudly represented Ecuador on national and international stages. Now, they’re stepping into new roles as mentors and teachers.
“This project isn’t just about our careers,” said Mayor Alvarez. “It’s the start of something great for Guayaquil.”
Building Discipline Through Sport
The municipal MMA academies will develop far more than just fighters. They’ll build discipline, respect, and self-control in students across the city. Each class will be designed to guide youth toward positive lifestyles, while identifying talented athletes for future competitions.
Adrián Luna emphasized the mission’s importance: “It’s a pleasure to motivate kids. With my brother and our family, we try to set the right example. There are many distractions today, but sports are the best path anyone can take.”
A Citywide Commitment to Youth Development
With free access, guidance from champions, and programs rooted in strong values, Guayaquil is positioning itself as a national leader in sports education through MMA. This initiative also reflects the city’s growing role in Latin America’s combat sports movement.
