Born on May 23 , 1951 in Tepito, Mexico City, Zarate overcame the challenges of his neighborhood to achieve international fame. Known as “Cañas“, he was noted for his impressive knockout record. He was WBC Bantamweight World Champion between 1976 y 1979. During those years, his reign cemented his place as one of the best.
