Holguín’s Strong Performance Seals the Deal
In the final, Holguín’s performance was nothing short of exceptional. The team’s draw with Guantánamo was enough to leave them with an uncatchable lead, while Camagüey could not match Holguín’s points after their own draw. Guantánamo secured third place with 253 points, followed by Matanzas (226), Guantánamo (215), Pinar del Río (198), and Sancti Spíritus (146).
Top Performers Shine for Holguín
Holguín’s success was bolstered by three boxers who won all four of their bouts: Santiago-based reinforcement Jesús Álvarez (48 kg), Raikol Leonard (75 kg), and Jorge Soto (80 kg). Their flawless records were instrumental in securing the title for Holguín.
Retirement and Honors: A Historic Moment
Sunday’s event also marked the retirement of Yunier Fábregas (51 kg), the Santiago boxer who reinforced Holguín throughout the series. Fábregas, a former youth world champion, stepped away from active competition after a long and successful career.
The best fight of the tournament was awarded to Julio Galloso (MTZ, 57 kg) and Rolando Martínez (GTM), while Keylor García (GTM, 75 kg) earned the “Most Technical Boxer” award. Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez (CFG, 63.5 kg) was recognized as the most combative boxer of the series.
