It seems lately in this column we are writing often about Jake Paul and his Most Valuable Promotions but the truth of the matter is he has given the boxing world much to talk about. Along with his partner Nakisa Bidirian and head of boxing Mike Lanardi, Paul is building his promotional company in a force to be reckoned with.
While Top Rank, one of the most prominent promotional companies in the world since the late 60s, is now without a broadcasting platform whether in traditional tv or streaming. Other companies like Premier Boxing Champions struggle to keep their streaming platform while others like Matchroom and Golden Boy Promotions are steady with the mainstay DAZN.
MVP has two.
Not only does Most Valuable Promotions have a steady gig with DAZN but also have a fruitful agreement with the biggest paid streaming platform in the world, Netflix.
This weekend MVP not only has a fight card on Friday night but on Saturday night as well streamed live on DAZN.
Broadcasting from a resort in Orlando, Florida, the fights MVP is offering are not earth shattering but good enough peak a hardcore boxing fan’s interest. In the main event on Friday, undefeated featherweight Jan-Paul Rivera of Puerto Rico takes on American Daniel Bailey in a ten rounder.
Who?
Exactly.
On Saturday night, the main event does not get any better as far as star power with also undefeated Puerto Rican Yankiel Rivera facing off against Angelino Cordova of Venezuela. At least this one is for the WBA interim flyweight title and scheduled for 12 rounds.
MVP’s best dish has always been their female fights with their vast stable of elite female boxers. This Saturday night’s card is no exception while Friday’s it is. Surprisingly their August 22nd card does not have one single female fight in the event while Saturday’s has four. There is no official reason why they didn’t split between the two cards.
Starting off the preliminary card we have two career building fights for light flyweight Jocelyn Camarillo and super flyweight Nat Dove. The main event of the preliminary card, which is being streamed on YouTube (another use of a prominent platform by MVP), features WBA super flyweight champion Jasmine Artiga defending her title against Linn Sandstrom of Australia.
On the main card streamed by DAZN, WBA lightweight champion Stephanie Han will look to defend her world title against Colombia’s Paulina Angel. With a win, Han might be facing off against the legendary Holly Holm who now after more than a decade out of a boxing ring is back and highly ranked by the organizations.
