Jorge Masvidal is eyeing a return to the UFC after feeling unsatisfied with his recent boxing match against Nate Diaz. Following his 2023 MMA retirement, Masvidal is eager to step back into the octagon, sharing that discussions for his next fight are already underway. The “BMF” champion told MMA Fighting that he’s targeting a return in late 2024 or early 2025.
“I’ve been talking to my boy Hunter [Campbell],” Masvidal said. “He’s checking dates, seeing if anyone wants the smoke. Once we lock in the date, we’ll find the opponent.”
Masvidal’s extensive career, with over 50 professional fights, seemed to come to an end after a loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. However, Masvidal stayed active in the fight world by launching his own promotion, hosting boxing and bare-knuckle MMA events. His passion for boxing led him to take on Nate Diaz in a much-anticipated rematch after their 2019 showdown for the “BMF” title, which Masvidal won.
Despite a hard-fought battle in the ring, Masvidal lost the rematch in a majority decision. Out-landing Diaz and landing some heavy shots, Masvidal was convinced he did enough to win. But with the fight taking place in Diaz’s home state of California, he believes the judges favored the hometown hero.
“How do you rob someone so blatantly?” Masvidal said, frustrated by the result. “We originally negotiated to have judges from California, Vegas, and Florida. But Diaz’s team refused, insisting on three California judges.”
The controversial outcome has left Masvidal with a strong desire to return to the UFC, feeling there’s unfinished business. His comeback fight will mark a new chapter in his legendary career, which has spanned over two decades. Fans eagerly await to see what the “BMF” champion will do next as he eyes a return to the octagon, hungry to settle old scores and reclaim his place at the top of the UFC.
