Boxing legend Julio César Chávez caused a stir outside the ring when he declared his undying love for Chivas. During his visit to Guadalajara, the boxing legend shared a big surprise with fans: he is now officially a “Chiva”! Julio César Chávez joins the Chivas family!
At Akron Stadium, Chavez received a warm invitation to speak at an Omnilife event. Amaury Vergara, president of Chivas, greeted him and presented him with a special gift: a Chivas jersey with the number one. Chavez laughed and revealed, “I just signed with Chivas…I am a Chiva.” He continued, “As a proud Mexican, I have always supported Chivas.”
Chivas welcomes boxing legend with open arms
Vergara, visibly moved, enthusiastically said, “Welcome home, Julio Cesar Chavez, legend and Chivahermano!” The warm reception marked the beginning of a special moment. Chavez interacted with fans and shared powerful life lessons about discipline, passion and success. Fans filled the stadium, eagerly absorbing Chavez’s wisdom. To make the moment even more memorable, the stage was set up on the field to allow the legend to speak freely.
Julio César Chávez: a boxer with a legendary career
Chavez, a name that resonates in boxing history, boasts an incredible career. With more than 31 title defenses and numerous world championships in three weight classes, he is one of the greatest boxers of all time. His historic 87-fight winning streak ended in 1994 with a loss to Frankie Randall. In addition, his record bout at the Estadio Azteca remains unmatched, with 136,274 fans witnessing his victory over Greg Haugen.
Today, Chavez is much more than a boxing hero. He proudly wears the red and white of Chivas. This newfound loyalty proves that passion for the sport transcends the ring. Without a doubt, his heart now belongs to the Rebaño.
