Kayla Harrison Out of UFC 324
The MMA world was stunned this morning. UFC Champion Kayla Harrison has officially withdrawn from the highly anticipated co-main event of UFC 324. Instead of preparing for battle in Las Vegas next Saturday, the bantamweight star is recovering in a New York City hospital.
Tears from the Hospital Bed
Harrison, 35, fought back tears as she broke the news to her fans. This was not just another title defense; it was the biggest fight of her career. She was set to face her former teammate and ex-champion, Amanda Nunes, in a massive grudge match.
However, a severe neck injury halted those plans abruptly. Overcome with emotion, the Olympian issued a video statement from her hospital bed. The devastation was visible on her face as she addressed the camera.
“Hi guys, I just wanted to give a bit of an update on my end – this is a tough one,” she began, her voice shaking slightly.
Emergency Surgery in New York
The situation required immediate medical intervention. Harrison revealed that she flew to New York City to see a specialist, Dr. Kim. The surgery was performed yesterday, making her participation in the mammoth melee impossible.
“So in lieu of that, obviously, we’re going to have to reschedule the fight, and I just want to say I’m sorry,” Harrison explained.
This cancellation is a major blow to the UFC 324 card. Fans were eager to see the two titans collide. Yet, health must always come first for high-level athletes.
A Champion’s Promise to Return
Despite the physical pain, Harrison’s thoughts turned immediately to her support system. The two-time Olympic gold medallist nearly shed a tear while thanking her family.
“I want to thank my mum, who’s taking care of my kids at home,” she said, visibly moved by her mother’s support.
She also expressed gratitude to her coaches at American Top Team. Although she is currently down, Harrison vowed to get back in the octagon as soon as she is fighting fit.
