KeMonito Reborn: New Name After Legal Battle with CMLL
In a dramatic twist of fate that shocked lucha libre fans, the beloved mascot KeMonito has officially adopted a new name. After losing a legal battle with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), he now goes by Don Changuito QJ. The man behind the iconic blue monkey suit, Jesús Juárez Rosales, is starting a new chapter. KeMonito Reborn: New Name After Legal Battle with CMLL.
Social Media Wiped Clean
According to lucha libre journalist Edson Ortiz, the CMLL didn’t stop at claiming the KeMonito name. They also erased all of Juárez’s social media accounts. Even though Juárez created and performed the character, he never secured the legal rights. Unfortunately, he had unknowingly signed them away long ago in exchange for job security.
The Return as Don Changuito QJ
With his digital voice taken away, Juárez reappeared on Instagram under the new name Don Changuito QJ. Notably, he holds onto his legacy. His new bio proudly states:
“Your friend, the original Que Monito, now with a new look.”
This rebranding marks a bold new beginning. The move follows a 2023 court ruling that favored CMLL in a lawsuit where Juárez accused the company of fraud, harassment, and labor negligence.
Voices Silenced, But Not Forgotten
Former CMLL commentator Leobardo Magadán shared an emotional interview with Juárez on his YouTube podcast. However, the video was taken down quickly after CMLL filed a complaint. As a result, Magadán criticized the company for what he called “shameful censorship in the digital age.”
From KeMonito to KeMalito
In a surprising and somewhat cruel move, CMLL has introduced a new, darker version of the character—KeMalito—now performing in Arena México.
Even though he’s been banned and bruised, Don Changuito QJ continues to live in the hearts of fans. The fight isn’t over. In fact, it’s only just begun—with a new name.
