Born Miguel Angel Lopez Diaz on January 8, 1958, Rey Misterio Sr. quickly rose to prominence in Mexican wrestling. He competed in major promotions such as the World Wrestling Association (WWA) and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. There, he won several championships and became famous for his skill in the ring. His influence went beyond the borders of Mexico. He participated in prestigious international events, such as WCW’s Starrcade 1990, where he represented Mexico in the “Copa Internacional Pat O’Connor Memorial”.
But Misterio Sr.’s impact was not limited to his personal success. In 1987, he co-founded a wrestling gym with the likes of Negro Casas and Super Astro. This gym trained future legends such as Konnan, Psicosis and, of course, his nephew, WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio Jr.
