“The Spanish Jake Paul” is in Miami preparing for his second fight at MMA Masters; Mendez will square off with New York’s Rafael Monterola
Mexican TV Star and Recording Artist Jawy Mendez Returns To Combate Global Action on Thursday, April 24, Live on YouTube
COMBATE GLOBAL today announced that Latin American reality television star and reggaeton recording artist, Jawy Mendez, will return to La Jaula for a second time in COMBATE GLOBAL Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action on Thursday, April 24, live worldwide on YouTube from TelevisaUnivision’s studios in Miami.
Mendez will square off in a 175-pound limit affair against Rafael Monterola (0-0).
Dubbed “the Spanish Jake Paul” before his last COMBATE GLOBAL fight, which marked his fight debut, the gutsy and passionate Mendez has upped his dedication to the sport by venturing to Miami for training camp at one of the sport’s top gyms worldwide, MMA Masters.
“Is Jawy Mendez really the ‘Spanish Jake Paul’ as he’s been referred to? We are going to see this time around,” said COMBATE GLOBAL CEO Campbell McLaren.
Mendez, a star on nine consecutive seasons of MTV’s smash-hit reality series Acapulco Shore as well as a star on the Televisa blockbuster reality series Hotel VIP, took the biggest risk of his career in 2023 to follow his love for combat sports, agreeing to compete in COMBATE GLOBAL that year.
After preparing for the fight at his gym in Mexico City, Mendez took on Johan Rodriguez, battling valiantly with the Colombian for nearly two full rounds before Rodriguez stopped Mendez at the 4:08 mark of the second round with a series of strikes.
Mendez may have lost the fight, but his heart and determination signaled to the fight and entertainment world that he means business.
This time around, Mendez will be preparing for his MMA bout underneath MMA Masters co-owners and head trainers Master Cesar Carneiro and Daniel Valverde.
Both originally from Brazil, Carneiro and Valverde have, together, trained more than 100 world champions at their impressive, 30,000 square foot facility located in the Hialeah section of Miami.
Carneiro, a master in the martial art of Capoeira, is known for having created a hybrid training program that draws from elements of the Brazilian fighting art and combines them with both Muay Thai and boxing fundamentals and advanced techniques.
Valverde is a decorated, multiple-time champion in Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the submission fighting art that he holds a black belt in.

In Monterola, who hails from The Bronx, N.Y., Mendez faces a new type of challenge in an experienced, former amateur MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor.
Monterola trains under Peter Storm, a Judo master and former competitor who is also the founder and former promoter of the legendary Underground Combat League (UCL).
For over 10 years, UCL, under Storm, produced dozens of MMA bouts throughout the Five Boroughs of New York, and gave rise to the likes of former MMA champion, Frankie Edgar.
The COMBATE GLOBAL event on April 24 will stream live, worldwide, free-of-charge on both Combate Global’s English language YouTube channel as well as its Spanish language YouTube channel.
The complete lineup of bouts for the event will be announced “soon”, according to COMBATE GLOBAL.
