Mistico
Few wrestlers possess the international aura of Mistico. He has already cemented his legacy within Major League Wrestling (MLW). However, the legendary luchador is not resting on his laurels. After a historic run, he has officially set his sights on the biggest prize of all: the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.
A Historic Run in Major League Wrestling
There aren’t many competitors who have achieved more success in MLW than the “King of Silver and Gold.” The former Middleweight Champion has dominated the competition recently. Notably, he is a two-time Opera Cup winner. Furthermore, he became the first Mexican wrestler in history to win that prestigious tournament in back-to-back years.
Eyes on the Top Prize
In a recent exclusive interview with Sports Illustrated’s Sid Pullar III, Mistico opened up about his future. He expressed deep gratitude for the working relationship between MLW and CMLL. Yet, his goals for 2026 are ambitious.
“I’ve been world champion in different companies and I want more goals in the next year,” Mistico stated. “I’m so grateful for everything I did in 2025 and I want more achievements in 2026 and for sure like you said, I would like to have an opportunity for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.”
The Current Landscape
If Mistico wants the gold, he must go through a monster. The MLW World Heavyweight Championship is currently held by the imposing Mads Krule Krugger. Krugger became the 12th person to ever hold the title after defeating Matt Riddle and Donovan Dijak at the 2025 Fightland event. Consequently, a clash between the high-flying Mistico and the brutal Krugger would be a marquee matchup.
Upcoming Appearances
Fans are eager to see this storyline unfold. MLW’s next major event is Battle Riot VIII on January 29. While Mistico is not currently scheduled for that card, he remains active. He is set to appear in the greater Chicago area on February 7 for the 2026 edition of Lucha Apocalypto. Will 2026 be the year he finally captures the heavyweight gold?
