Nicaragua made history with the First National Open Of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsuin which more than 190 athletes participated. The event was held at the Polideportivo España and marked an important step in the growth of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) in the country. It also showed the growing interest in the sport throughout Nicaragua.
Well Organized Event With Great Participation
The tournament was a resounding success, with impeccable organization. It quickly gained a reputation as one of the most outstanding BJJ events in the region. Athletes of all levels, from white to brown belts, competed in six categories divided by weight and belt rank. Athletes from other disciplines also participated, such as Judo and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), which added excitement and diversity to the event.
Wesley Tiffer, chairman of the organizing committee, shared his enthusiasm for the event: “This is our first open tournament. We started with white ribbons, then blue ribbons, and finally included all categories. We are excited about the great turnout. Athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in different weight classes and belt ranks.”
Emerging Talent And Strong Female Participation
The event brought together athletes of all ages, who showed their skills in five-minute bouts. These tests highlighted the strength, strategy and dedication necessary for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Josué González, an athlete with four years of training, expressed his pride: “This is the most organized event I have ever been to. It marks a milestone in my process as a BJJ practitioner.”
In addition, the female participation was notable, with the presence of Argentina Sequeira, blue belt and medical radiologist. Sequeira, who has been practicing BJJ for three years, talked about her passion: “I have always been attracted to contact sports. After having two children, I dedicated myself to train hard and pursue my dreams in Jiu-Jitsu.”
A Promising Future For Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu In Nicaragua
The organizing committee has high expectations for the future of BJJ in Nicaragua. They believe this inaugural event will lay the groundwork for an annual tradition. As the sport grows, it is expected that more athletes will join the Jiu-Jitsu community in Nicaragua.
