“Only Ruling Body” of Boxing Despite IOC Suspension
Madrid, Spain — Umar Kremlev, president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), continues to claim that the IBA is the “Only Ruling Body” of Boxing Despite IOC Suspension. Even though the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the IBA in June 2023, Kremlev insists that his organization is the only one with the experience and expertise to oversee global boxing competitions. He views the IOC’s decision as politically motivated.
Boxing and the Olympics: A Rising Conflict
The IOC assumed control of the Olympic boxing tournaments after discovering irregularities within the IBA, formerly known as AIBA. Despite the IBA’s exclusion from the 2028 Los Angeles Games, Kremlev argues that his organization remains the only body capable of providing boxers with a fair and stable future. He reiterated that the IBA is “the true home of boxing” and vowed to continue promoting the sport as a symbol of unity and peace, free from political interference.
IBA’s Fight Against IOC Influence
In his year-end message, Kremlev reaffirmed that the IBA will keep fighting for boxers’ rights to represent their countries proudly. “Our boxers will compete under their flags and anthems, no matter what,” he declared.
World Boxing: A New Challenger Steps Up
Several major boxing federations, including those from the United States, England, Brazil, and India, have formed World Boxing. This new organization aims to replace the IBA and secure IOC recognition for the 2028 Olympic Games.
The ongoing battle between the IBA and IOC will likely determine the future of Olympic boxing.
