A Tournament That Shook the Region
The Open Veracruz 2025 proved that Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Mexico is not just growing—it’s exploding with energy. Held at the Club de Leones, this weekend tournament made headlines by packing 85 MMA bouts into just five hours.
Even more impressive, 147 athletes stepped into the cage. Their performance showcased not only raw talent but also Veracruz’s expanding MMA infrastructure. The event featured two official cages, a 90-square-meter warm-up area, an electronic podium, emergency medical support, and 12 certified officials from the Federación de Artes Marciales Mixtas (FAMM).
Leadership and Organization on Full Display
Coach Horacio López, the driving force behind the event, shared his pride in the strong turnout and collaboration.
“It’s an honor to keep growing the sport in Veracruz,” López said. “Each tournament is a challenge—and we keep surpassing expectations.”
The tournament was officially sanctioned by FAMM México, backed by Vice President Agustín Guzmán, and co-hosted by the Asociación de Artes Marciales Mixtas del Golfo. Jaymit Guerrero Quiñones played a key role in coordinating efforts on the ground.
