In one of the most anticipated fights of the year, Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez and Phumelele Cafu will square off on July 19 at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas. The Rodriguez vs. Cafu contest will be for the unification of the WBC, WBO and The Ring super flyweight world titles, adding a high level of anticipation to this undefeated showdown.
Rodriguez vs. Cafu
Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs), originally from San Antonio, Texas, is a current WBC and The Ring Magazine champion. At just 25 years old, “Bam” has proven to be one of boxing’s most promising up-and-comers.
In June 2024, he knocked out Juan Francisco Estrada to win his titles and then successfully defended against Pedro Guevara. His speed, accuracy and technical ability have made him the favorite of many.
Meanwhile, Cafu (11-0-3, 8 KOs), a 30-year-old South African, captured the WBO title after a hard-fought split decision win over Kosei Tanaka in October 2024.
Now, he will make his first defense with high aspirations. “Beating him will put me on the pound-for-pound list, and I will be the king of the division,” Cafu stated confidently.
The contrasting styles of the two fighters promise an electrifying battle: the refined tactics of Rodriguez versus the power and resilience of Cafu.
In addition, the winner could later face Fernando Martinez, IBF and WBA champion, to completely unify the division.
The bout will be broadcast on DAZN, with the main event kicking off around 10:00 p.m. CST.
Undoubtedly, this fight will capture the attention of fans around the world.
