After a year-long hiatus, Ryan Garcia’s suspension has been lifted, allowing him to re-enter the ring and face Rolando “Rolly” Romero on May 2nd, 2025. The bout, scheduled in the iconic Times Square, New York City, marks Garcia’s return to boxing following a suspension due to a positive test for the banned substance ostarine after his April 2024 fight against Devin Haney.
Ryan Garcia’s Suspension Lifted
The upcoming match is part of the “Fatal Fury: City of Wolves” event, featuring a tripleheader that includes Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez and Teofimo Lopez vs. Arnold Barboza Jr..
Garcia, with a record of 24–1–0–1 (20 KOs), will face Romero, who holds a 16–2 record with 13 knockouts.
Garcia’s return is not without controversy. His previous victory over Haney was overturned to a no-contest due to the failed drug test. This led him to face legal challenges that included a lawsuit alleging he feigned injury to avoid a fight in Japan.
Despite these issues, Garcia has expressed confidence, stating, “I’m ready to show the world that I’m back and better than ever.”
Romero, a former WBA super lightweight champion, aims to capitalize on this opportunity. He rebounded from a loss to Isaac Cruz by defeating Manuel Jaimes in September 2024.
The fight against Garcia presents a chance for Romero to reestablish himself in the welterweight division.
The May 2 event will be broadcast live on DAZN PPV. As both fighters prepare, the boxing community watches closely, anticipating a match that could redefine their careers.
