Wouldn’t Stand A Chance!
Sandor Martín isn’t pulling punches. In a bold interview that’s shaking up the combat sports world, the Spanish boxing star claimed UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria “Wouldn’t Stand A Chance!” in a professional boxing match.
He made the statement during an appearance on MMA SIN LÍMITES, where he explained why the octagon champion wouldn’t survive under the bright lights of a traditional boxing ring.
Boxing vs. MMA: Two Completely Different Worlds
Ilia Topuria’s knockout power has overwhelmed top UFC fighters like Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway. However, according to Martín, Topuria’s fighting style simply doesn’t translate to pure boxing.
“If Ilia takes me to the ground, he’ll destroy me,” Martín admitted. “But boxing is a whole different movie.”
Martín described Topuria’s striking style as effective in MMA but far too basic for a dedicated boxing match.
“His boxing is great for MMA, but in boxing, it’s more vulgar—more conventional,” he added.
Mutual Respect—But No Backing Down
Despite the sharp critique, Martín made it clear he respects Topuria’s accomplishments. He even acknowledged that Topuria has already achieved something Martín hasn’t: becoming a champion on U.S. soil.
“Ilia has done what I haven’t—gone to the U.S. twice and returned as champion. That’s admirable,” Martín said.
Even so, Martín remains confident that in the boxing ring, he holds the upper hand.
What’s Next for These Combat Titans?
The battle between boxing and MMA is heating up once again. With Martín’s latest comments, fans are buzzing about a potential crossover fight.
Whether it happens or not, one thing is clear: the rivalry between traditional boxing and mixed martial arts continues to spark fire in the world of combat sports.
