WWE Buys AAA and Brings TNA into the fray
In a seismic shift, WWE surprised fans by buying AAA, Mexico’s second largest promoter, during WrestleMania weekend.
However, that was just the beginning. WWE Buys AAA and Brings TNA into the fray!
Now WWE is partnering with TNA, sending talents such as Joe Hendry, Moose and brothers Nic and Ryan Nemeth to Triplemania Regia on June 15.
This move comes as WWE prepares for its first collaboration with AAA at Worlds Collide on June 7 in Los Angeles.
Fireworks are expected.
Angel and Berto will step into the ring for WWE, while the young stars of NXT will take on the best of AAA.
The battle is just beginning!
AEW and CMLL Launch Grand Slam Mexico
Meanwhile, AEW responds strongly.
True to its global style, AEW launches the Grand Slam Mexico event at Arena Mexico, also on June 15.
The lineup is stellar: Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Místico and Máscara Dorada headline a historic night.
And AEW isn’t stopping there.
Its stars will participate in several CMLL events during Grand Slam Week.
Among those confirmed are Thunder Rosa, Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita.
A Battle for the Soul of Wrestling
This is no longer just a brand war.
It’s a culture clash.
On the one hand, WWE represents corporate power.
It focuses on spectacle, production and legacy.
That’s why it reuses the name Worlds Collide, evoking the legendary AAA/WCW event of 1994.
On the other hand, AEW is committed to authenticity.
Its narrative highlights the deep roots of Lucha Libre and the passion of the fans.
In addition, it promotes an open-door philosophy.
Why This Matters
For the first time in decades, both major U.S. promotions are investing in Mexican Lucha Libre.
It is no longer a sideshow.
It is now the main event.
As Penta said in the Raw Recap podcast:
“This is a very good opportunity for young and Mexican fighters.”
So, the soul of Lucha Libre is at stake. And in June, the whole world will be watching.
