Muay Thai Prodigy Fights For His Life After Tragic Accident
SAN DIEGO – The combat sports community has rallied in support of Kevin Ouda, an 11-year-old Muay Thai champion. Recognized as a rising star in the ring, the Muay Thai Prodigy is fighting for his life after a tragic accident last Saturday near El Cajon. He was hit by a car while returning to his gym after a morning run with older teammates.
A Hero in the Ring, a Warrior Beyond Himself
According to James Gregory, Kevin’s trainer, the accident occurred when Kevin tried to avoid a dog that crossed his path. At that moment, a vehicle struck him on First Avenue. This road lacks sidewalks and adequate lighting, which increases the risk to pedestrians.
“Kevin fights with incredible heart and determination. He refuses to give up,” said Gregory. After the accident, Kevin was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. There, he underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain due to head trauma.
However, despite the efforts of the surgical team, as of Sunday morning, December 22, Kevin remains on life support. He is connected to a ventilator that maintains his breathing and heartbeat.
From Championship Glory to a New Battle
In September, Kevin achieved an extraordinary milestone by winning a regional championship in Arizona. His rapid progress impressed the Muay Thai community. He was also scheduled for a national title fight in January in Queens, New York. Now, his biggest challenge is recovering from his injuries.
A Community That Comes Together by Kevin
Meanwhile, Gregory’s gym, Pure Heart Muay Thai, has become a hub for prayers and messages of encouragement. In addition, support has poured in from all over the country, including from the family of his future opponent.
“We’re in his corner for this fight, just like we would be in the ring,” Gregory emphasized.
How You Can Make a Difference
The team is asking for prayers and support for Kevin’s recovery. Also, members of the community have sent messages of encouragement that give hope to his family and the gym.
