A Classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico Rivalry
Combat sports fans love a good rivalry. This matchup pits Mexico against Puerto Rico, a classic dynamic in the fighting world. Mendez looks to improve his record, while Padron aims to derail the hype train.
Padron has not minced words regarding his opponent.
“This guy Jawy is a bougie wannabe. We’ll see how he looks after I turn him into a human piñata on February 26,” Padron said.
The pressure is certainly on Mendez. Combate Global CEO Campbell McLaren emphasized the gravity of this fight.
“This is the final chance for this fighter to prove he has what it takes. For him, this is not a show – it’s a fight,” McLaren stated.
How to Watch the Action Live
Fans in the U.S. and Mexico have multiple ways to tune in. The broadcast begins at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.
For viewers in the United States, the event airs live on EstrellaTV in Spanish. English commentary is available on FIGHTTIPS, the popular YouTube channel hosted by Shane Fazen.
Meanwhile, fans in Mexico can catch the action nationally on Samsung TV Plus.
The Experienced ‘Hitman’
John Padron brings a gritty background to the cage. Born and raised in The Bronx, N.Y., he cut his teeth in the Underground Combat League (UCL). The UCL was known for unsanctioned events in New York City during the 2000s. It launched the careers of legends like Frankie Edgar.
Currently, Padron lives in Orlando, Florida. He trains at Fusion Xcel Performance alongside heavy hitters like Lyoto Machida and Mike “Platinum” Perry. Furthermore, he previously trained in England with UFC star Paddy Pimblett. With over 20 years of martial arts experience and a BJJ blue belt, he is a dangerous veteran.
Mendez Looks to Silence Critics
Jawy Mendez is famous for his time on reality TV. He starred in nine seasons of MTV’s Acapulco Shore and Televisa’s Hotel VIP. However, he is serious about his fighting career.
Mendez made his pro debut in 2023. He secured his first victory in April 2025 by stopping Rafael Monterola in the second round. To prepare for Padron, Mendez has moved his camp to Irvine, California. He is currently training under master coach Colin Oyama.
This fight represents a crossroads. Will the reality star shine, or will the underground veteran prevail?
