Floyd Mayweather Jr
11 years after the bout that broke all pay-per-view records in history, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will meet again in the ring.
The rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao is now official for September 19 in Las Vegas. The fight will be the first boxing match to take place at the famous Sphere in Paradise.
Ring Magazine was the first to reveal the rematch this Monday morning.
Mayweather announced a few days ago that he was returning to professional boxing this year, hinting that his opponent was already set. The fight against Pacquiao will be a professional bout, and ‘Money’ will look to extend his undefeated record of 50 wins.
The first fight in 2015 generated over 4.6 million Pay-Per-View sales and brought in millions at the gate, with ticket sales reaching $72 million.
The card was highly anticipated, but the bout was not what many hoped to see. Mayweather had no trouble utilizing his ring prowess, defeating ‘Pacman’ and unifying three welterweight belts.
Following the fight, ‘Money’ Mayweather stepped away from the ring for nine years. Pacquiao, on the other hand, is returning seven months after his controversial draw against then-WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios.
The unexpected result did not go unnoticed; many had hoped to see Pacquiao crowned as the second-oldest world champion to win a world title in boxing history.
In fact, a rematch with Barrios was expected to be the Filipino fighter’s next engagement in the ring.
But fate decided to reunite him with the man he fought in a bout that many had long waited to see back then.
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2 will take place on September 19 at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
