Alex Pereira
Alex Pereira’s next challenge is already set. The former two-division champion will move up to heavyweight to try to capture a third title. “Poatan” will face former interim champion Ciryl Gane in the co-main event of UFC White House.
The announcement was made during the broadcast of the UFC 326 main card.
Pereira vacated the light heavyweight title after reclaiming the belt and knocking out Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320. The Brazilian striker’s path has not gone unnoticed in combat sports. After making waves in kickboxing and capturing the middleweight and light heavyweight Glory Kickboxing titles, he decided to move to MMA.
It was only a matter of time for him to make his debut in the world’s most important octagon, where he won the UFC middleweight and light heavyweight titles. Now, he will look to make history and become the first champion in the organization’s history to capture three belts across different divisions.
Gane is coming off a No Contest against Tom Aspinall at UFC 321. With the lineal champion having no return date following eye surgery, he will look to put a halt to the legacy of ‘Poatan’ in a fight that is sure to feature intense exchanges.
Ciryl began his career in Muay Thai; after going undefeated in his 13 fights, he transitioned to MMA, where he was crowned the TKO MMA champion.
During his time in the UFC, he has not gone unnoticed, capturing the interim belt of the division. After losing to Jon Jones at UFC 285, he won his next two fights against Serghei Spivac and Alexander Volkov, earning the right to face Aspinall.
UFC White House will be held on Sunday, June 14th, at the White House in Washington D.C.
