The Dominican fighter defeated Andrés “Baki” Gómez once again to capture the LFC title in Santo Domingo.
Carlos Santana continues to establish himself within the Dominican Republic’s MMA scene. The Dominican fighter was crowned Legend Fighting Club (LFC) champion after once again facing Colombian fighter Andrés “Baki” Gómez, an opponent he was already familiar with from a previous meeting.
“It was an exciting and challenging experience because Baki is not just any opponent. We had already faced each other before and I beat him by decision, but he was still a challenge because he is a strong and athletic fighter who also recently became a champion in Colombia,” Santana told Fajador.
Carlos Santana Set the Pace to Capture the LFC Title
Santana entered the fight with a clear strategy: take control from the opening moments and maintain his pace until the end.
“From the moment the fight started, I set the pace, as I always try to do in all my fights. Maintaining it until the end was what we worked on,” he explained.
The championship represents another step in a combat sports journey built across several disciplines.
Santana began training in kickboxing under Master Grullón before continuing his development as an MMA fighter. Along the way, he has also competed in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and currently continues his preparation alongside Team Mordan.
For the new champion, his faith has been a fundamental part of that journey.
“What has helped me reach the level I’m at is simply Jehovah God. I am a man completely guided by faith, and since the beginning of my career, when I started kickboxing with my Master Grullón, I have asked God to allow me to train with the best and to remain disciplined as I have until now. And here we are, moving forward with the best team in the country, Team Mordan,” Santana said.
LFC and the Growth of MMA in the Dominican Republic
Santana believes the sport is going through an important period of development in his country and highlighted the progress Legend Fighting Club has made in a relatively short period of time.
“MMA in my country is growing, and LFC, despite being a promotion that has only been operating for a short time, has already positioned itself among the top promotions in the country and soon, I believe, in the Caribbean,” he said.
The emergence and development of promotions like LFC continues to provide competitive opportunities for Dominican athletes while contributing to the growth of mixed martial arts across the region.
The Next Step for Carlos Santana
With the championship secured, Santana is already looking toward the next stage of his professional career, while understanding that the path forward requires continuing to gain experience and victories.
“My goal is what every athlete wants: to reach the top, which in this case is the UFC. We are working to win a few more fights and earn an opportunity to compete on the Contender Series, make it into the UFC and then take over, God willing,” Santana concluded.
With another title added to his résumé, Carlos Santana continues building his path through Dominican MMA while representing a combat sports scene that is looking to establish an even stronger presence throughout the Caribbean.
