Today is International Women’s Day. Consequently, the World Boxing Council is celebrating loud and clear. The organization proudly reaffirms its deep commitment to WBC women’s boxing equity. Above all, they want equal opportunities for female fighters globally.
Empowering Women Everywhere
During March, the WBC fully dedicates its vast resources to women. Christiane Manzur, the director of WBC Cares in Mexico, shared their exact goals.
“What we seek is equity for women inside the ring,” she explained and emphasized the need for equal pay, fair chances, and a loud voice.
Pushing for Real Change
The WBC celebrates Women’s Empowerment Month with serious action. Specifically, they demand better pay, more media visibility, and higher rankings for female athletes. In addition, programs like “Women in Boxing” build strong foundations outside the ring. This mission is vital today.
Jill Diamond is the international secretary of WBC Cares. Excitingly, she will deliver a powerful speech at the United Nations this Wednesday, March 11. Her focus is pure empowerment. She reminds us that the WBC has supported female athletes fiercely since 2004.
Talent Over Gender
That was the year Jackie Nava won the first world title.
“We have always believed that talent, not gender, makes a champion,” Diamond stated.
She noted that women bleed and fight exactly like men. Therefore, they truly deserve the exact same respect and rewards. Historically, the council hosted five major Women’s Boxing Conventions. These events ran from 2014 to 2018. They started in Cancun and later reached the Philippines. Sadly, the pandemic temporarily paused these massive global gatherings. However, the movement never truly stopped growing.
The Vegas Women’s Summit
Recently, in March 2025, the WBC hosted a massive Women’s Summit in Las Vegas. This thrilling event gathered over two hundred boxing professionals. Doctors, referees, judges, and promoters all attended. Most importantly, they honored absolute pioneers like Laila Ali, Mariana Juarez, and Mia St. John.
Today, WBC Cares continues to highlight the massive generational impact of female fighters. They proudly honor legends like Amanda Serrano and Claressa Shields. Moreover, they celebrate current superstars like Gabriela Fundora, Mikaela Mayer, and Katie Taylor. These incredible champions inspire millions worldwide.

Ultimately, the council pushes a clear vision of total equality. Through these bold actions, they ensure female fighters get recognized. WBC women’s boxing equity is not just a dream anymore.
