Andy Williams, known to metal fans as the towering rhythm guitarist for Every Time I Die and to wrestling audiences as AEW’s “The Butcher,” has died at 48. Both the heavy music scene and the professional wrestling community are reeling from the sudden loss of a genuinely beloved figure.
A Sudden Collapse In The Ring
Williams collapsed on September 5 during an independent Enjoy Wrestling show in Millvale, Pennsylvania. He had just finished a tag-team match alongside his longtime partner Jesse “The Blade” Guilmette.
Medics immediately jumped into the ring to perform CPR before an ambulance rushed him to a local hospital. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced him dead later that night. While emergency dispatch audio referenced a possible head injury involving a ring post, officials haven’t released a definitive cause of death.
Metal Riffs To Wrestling Rings
Williams carved out a rare and gritty path. For more than twenty years, his crushing guitar tone formed the backbone of Every Time I Die, helping shape modern metalcore from 1998 until the band split in 2022.
Instead of slowing down, he leaned hard into a childhood dream. Debuting in All Elite Wrestling in 2019, his imposing presence as “The Butcher” made him an instant fixture on national television. It’s incredibly rare for anyone to start wrestling in their late 30s and make it to a premier promotion, but Williams pulled it off while earning deep, universal respect behind the scenes.

His creative drive was still pushing forward. Williams recently formed a new heavy band called Atomic Rule. Just hours before the fatal match, he posted an enthusiastic video update announcing they had finished writing new material and were gearing up for a winter tour alongside Gwar.
