Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz wins lawsuit against New Champion Promotions, marking a major turning point in his professional career. A Northern California court ruled that his 2023 promotional agreement with NCP was invalid, freeing the unbeaten lightweight to move forward exclusively with Matchroom Boxing.

Judge William H. Orrick concluded that “there was no mutual agreement on material terms between Cruz and NCP,” declaring the contract unenforceable. Cruz had accused the company of withholding portions of his signing bonus and fight purses, citing violations of the Ali Act and breach of contract.
The ruling dismissed NCP’s claim to 25% of Cruz’s Matchroom earnings but granted limited compensation to NCP president Jesse Rodriguez for helping arrange Cruz’s Matchroom deal. “The NCP agreement lacked essential terms and consideration,” Orrick stated.
Cruz (6-0, 3 KOs) initially filed the lawsuit in December 2023 after realizing discrepancies in his payments. His legal victory ensures he can now focus fully on his next challenge — a title bout against IBF lightweight champion Raymond Muratalla, set for January 24 at Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
With his legal troubles behind him, Cruz stands ready to chase greatness inside the ring.
