Chavez Jr. Arrested by ICE
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., son of the Mexican boxing icon, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Studio City, California. According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), he faces expedited deportation. This is due to an active warrant for his arrest in Mexico for serious crimes, including organized crime and arms trafficking. Chavez Jr. arrested by ICE.
Links to the Sinaloa Cartel and Immigration Fraud
US authorities allege that Chavez Jr. has ties to the Sinaloa Cartel. This group was classified as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization” by the Trump administration. In addition, he is accused of having lied on his application for permanent residency. For this reason, the DHS classifies him as a “serious threat to public safety”.
These accusations are supported by an arrest warrant issued in Mexico in 2023. It charges him with trafficking and manufacturing arms, explosives and ammunition.
Expired Visa and Legal Background in the U.S.
Chavez Jr. legally entered the United States in August 2023 on a B2 visa. However, his visa expired in February 2024. Although he attempted to obtain residency through his U.S. wife, Frida Muñoz, authorities discovered inconsistencies. Muñoz is also allegedly linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
To make matters worse, Chavez Jr. has a criminal record. Among them, a DUI conviction in 2012 and recent gun charges in Los Angeles in 2024.
From Boxing Star to International Court Case
Recently, Chavez Jr. made headlines for losing a fight to influencer Jake Paul. However, he now faces more serious challenges outside the ring. ICE considers him illegal in the country and has initiated deportation proceedings.
In short, this case mixes celebrity, organized crime and immigration policy. All of this has a direct impact on Mexican boxing and the tense relations between the United States and Mexico.
