Pan American Wushu Kung Fu Championship
Four young Chihuahua athletes are packing their bags to represent Mexico at the 15th annual Pan American Wushu Kung Fu Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 8 to 12.
Rising Stars of Mexican Martial Arts
Mario Alejandro Álvarez Ruiz from the XINJU Association will demonstrate his mastery of Chang Quan, Daoshu, and Gunshu in the adult category. He won’t fly alone. Three junior competitors from Wushu Central—Alexa Félix Pérez, Joseline Nevárez Torres, and Axel Carreón Ojeda—will tackle the Sanda platform. For these kids, the real battle started months ago. They pushed through exhaustion and repeated endless drills. Traveling south is simply the reward for hours of relentless discipline.
XINJU Expands With a New School
As its top talent heads overseas, Chihuahua’s local Wushu scene keeps booming. The XINJU Association already trains 440 students statewide, and now they are opening another door for beginners. A new facility launches at Plaza San Cristóbal on Saturday, October 10, at 3:00 PM. Javier Arturo Lira Luna will lead the training, kicking things off with a live exhibition. This fresh space gives locals a wonderful chance to start their own martial arts journey.
Wushu Builds Character and Discipline
Long before you learn to throw a punch or execute a high kick, traditional Chinese martial arts teach you something much harder: how to control yourself. Wushu encompasses hundreds of styles, from the grounded power of Hung Gar to the fast strikes of Wing Chun. Yet, every single discipline demands the exact same foundation. You learn to show up on time, respect your peers, and accept that falling down is just part of the process.
A Lifelong Journey of Personal Growth
Instructors, respectfully called Sifus, carry a heavy responsibility. Under leaders like José Alfredo Lira Villagrán, they do a lot more than teach self-defense. They shape character. For kids, this practice instills focus and emotional regulation. For adults, it builds coordination and mental clarity. The training mat reveals exactly what you can achieve.
