The undefeated Spaniard will face off with Oussama Assli in a 165-pound bout
Undefeated Combate Global rising star Michel “La Furia” Martinez (3-0 MMA, 0-0 Karate Combat) will enter the Karate Combat ring for the first time in a 165-pound/75-kilogram matchup with Oussama Assli (1-0 Karate Combat) in Miami, Fla.
The news was confirmed with Combate Global and Karate Combat officials today.
According to these sources, the Karate Combat event and this fight will take place on either Thursday, Dec. 5 or Sunday, Dec. 8.
The 165-pound/75-kilogram weight is the Karate Combat weight limit for the promotion’s welterweight division.
Martinez, who hails from Valencia, Spain, got a late start on his professional career at 31 years old in 2019, and was absent from competition after his pro debut until 2023.
Thus far, Martinez has looked strong since his four-year hiatus, scoring a second round knockout on Kade Kottenbrook in his Combate Global debut in September of last year, and a first round knockout on Carlo Ricci last December.
Martinez was set to fight Rudisel Mora on June 22 in what would have been the Spanish fighter’s third Combate Global bout, but was unable to make the contractual weight the week of the bout.
The rules of Karate Combat, unlike the rules of MMA competition, do not allow opponents to fight on the ground. However, if one fighter is on the ground, the opponent may throw strikes to the fighter on the ground.
If the fighter who is standing up shows intent to finish the fight, the referee will allow that fighter to continue striking the opponent who is on the ground.
