Red Owl Boxing announced that it has signed super lightweight (140 pounds) Giovanni Marquez (15-1, 8 KO’s) to an exclusive multi-fight, multi-year promotional agreement.
The 25-year-old native of Houston and son of former world champion and Olympian Raul “El Diamante” Marquez, will make his debut under the new promotional deal on a Red Owl Boxing fight card slated for Friday, Sept. 11.
The location of the fight and the opponent will be announced at a later date.
“We are thrilled to welcome Giovanni Marquez to the fast-growing stable of Red Owl Boxing and have full confidence that he will shine under our promotion and create his own legacy in the sport,” said Greg Bloom, CEO of Red Owl Boxing, in a press release issued by the company.
The young Marquez has been training under his father, the same way Raul trained with his father, Auturo Marquez.
Giovanni’s fighting style, however, relies on a mix of boxing and punching, differentiating him greatly from his father, who was known for his continuous forward movement.
In 2021, Giovanni earned the National Golden Gloves championship while also winning the prestigious annual amateur tournament’s “Most Outstanding Boxer” award.
Giovanni competed previously in Red Owl Boxing, under a single-fight agreement, defeating Thomas Guillemette in the second round (2:53) of action at the promotion’s ‘BoxFest XI” event in Houston.
To date, the stoppage of Guillemette, the footage of which went viral on the internet, arguably remains Giovanni’s best showing to date.
