Media Open workout
WBA and WBO Unified Cruiserweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez hosted a media open workout in Los Angeles as part of the lead-up to his fight against the undefeated two-division world champion David “El Monstro” Benavidez, which will be part of the Cinco de Mayo weekend on the PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video on Saturday, May 2 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Open workout also featured the notable presence of WBA Super Middleweight World Champion Armando “Toro” Reséndiz and the dynamic former world champion Jaime Munguía, who will face each other headlining an explosive co-main event.
Top contender Oscar Duarte, who will square off against the powerful Ángel Fierro in a 10-round super lightweight attraction, also took part in the media open workout before facing the tough Ángel Fierro in a 10-round super lightweight attraction on the pay-per-view.
Tickets are already on sale through www.AXS.com.
The event is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Sampson Boxing in association with TGB Promotions. Reséndiz vs. Munguía is promoted in association with Warriors Boxing and Zanfer Boxing Promotions. Duarte vs. Fierro is promoted in association with Cancun Boxing and BXSTRS.
The PPV will be available for purchase on Prime Video, without needing to be a Prime member, and can also be purchased by visiting DAZN.com. Additionally, people will also be able to continue accessing the broadcast through traditional cable and satellite outlets.
Sparring Partners Turned Bitter Rivals
Ramírez and Benavidez aren’t strangers. They have logged nearly 200 rounds of sparring together over the years. However, Zurdo is quick to point out that training sessions don’t compare to the real thing. Fighting under the bright lights of the T-Mobile Arena with small gloves changes everything. He expects a war rather than a boxing match. Moving to cruiserweight requires deep confidence in one’s body, and Zurdo feels unstoppable.
“I am so excited to headline this event. I believe we have the potential to give the fans the ‘Fight of the Year’. Although David Benavidez and I have done close to 200 rounds of sparring throughout our careers, being in the ring for real is very different. This won’t be an ordinary fight; it will be a war.”
A Stacked Card of Mexican Warriors
The excitement doesn’t stop with the main event. Jaime Munguía is back, ready to show his experience against the aggressive bull in the ring Armando “Toro” Reséndiz. He feels the weight of representing Mexico on such a prestigious holiday.
“A lot of things go through your mind when you walk to the ring to fight on Cinco de Mayo. It is not just another day. Fighting on Cinco de Mayo means representing the Mexican fans.”
Meanwhile, Reséndiz views this as his chance to prove that adversity has been his greatest teacher.
“I have come a long way since that fight against Plant, and I am very excited to be in this position. I have learned that adversity is not your enemy, but rather your teacher.”
Fireworks Guaranteed From the Start
Kicking off the pay-per-view, Oscar Duarte faces Ángel Fierro in a super lightweight showdown. Duarte is entering the ring with a massive chip on his shoulder after a previous fight fell through. He knows Fierro well from the gym but is ready to settle the score for real. This entire card is a love letter to boxing fans, featuring high-stakes matchups across every weight class.
