The long-awaited fight between Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison is just over two weeks away, and the UFC has a new addition that brings a Latin presence
The bout scheduled as the co-main event of UFC 334 on November 14 at New York‘s mítico Madison Square Garden already has a Plan B.
According to MMA Fighting, Panamanian fighter Joselyn Edwards will be the backup fighter for the bout, which will be for the women’s bantamweight belt. The decision makes sense, as the Xtreme Couture fighter is ranked No. 1, trailing only Kayla Harrison.
“La Pantera” is in the prime of her career. After a rough patch between 2023 and 2024, she managed to bounce back and now boasts a five-fight winning streak.
In her last fight, she came out on top and snapped Norma Dumont‘s winning streak at UFC Vegas 116 last April.
Edwards, 31, began her MMA journey in 2015; after standing out as the Panama Fight League champion, it was only a matter of time before doors opened for her on the U.S. regional circuit.
In 2018, she captured the KOTC bantamweight belt, one of the longest-running organizations in MMA history. In the bout, she submitted Brenda Gonzalez on the Aggressive Lifestyle card.
Months later, she fought for the inaugural bantamweight belt in LFA, the premier regional promotion in the United States; after losing to Sarah Alpar via split decision, the setback only motivated her to keep pursuing her big break.
After a brief hiatus, she returned to the cage in 2020 at UWC Mexico 22, where she knocked out Mexico’s Pamela Gonzalez. Shortly after, she got the call to the UFC, and she currently boasts an 18-6 record—including eight knockouts and four submissions.
